30 years of mpower. The original remains the standard. For three decades, Marbach technology has been shaping efficiency and process reliability in die-cutting.

We are celebrating 30 years of mpower – a technology that has been setting standards in the die-cutting process since its introduction. What began as a technological innovation in 1996 has now become an established standard in the packaging industry. For three decades, mpower has stood for maximum die-cutting performance, reduced make-ready times, and reliable quality from the first to the last sheet.

In the mid-1990s, die-cutting paperboard and corrugated board was characterized by high setup costs, tight tolerances, and demanding process conditions. Height differences in the tool, overpressure, or angel hair impaired process reliability and often led to machine downtime. This is exactly where Marbach came in with mpower and fundamentally changed the die-cutting process.

The solution: the mpower cutting rule
At the heart of the technology is the mpower cutting rule developed by Marbach. Its key feature is a rounded cutting tip that reliably compensates for height tolerances, significantly reduces angel hair, and is virtually immune to overpressure within reasonable extent. In combination with coordinated machining and assembly techniques and so-called zone compensation, mpower enables a reduction in knife setup times and significantly higher process reliability right from the start. "The special feature of mpower is the cutting rule itself. The rounded cutting edge ensures that the punching process remains stable, even with tolerances or pressure fluctuations. This principle has proven itself over decades and remains the basis for consistently high cutting quality today," explains Bernhard Reisser, Industry Manager for paperboard at Marbach.

Based on decades of experience and close cooperation with customers, mpower has been consistently further developed. The result is mpower+, a technology package in which the cutting rule and all associated components have been redesigned. This includes a specially developed laser cutting process, a special mounting technique, special rubbering, and the specification of the calculated run-in and final punching force. "With mpower+, we relieve our customers of a large part of the process uncertainty. The tool no longer has to be gradually adjusted to the optimum cutting pressure. This saves time, reduces machine downtime, and noticeably increases productivity," Reisser continues.

For 30 years, mpower has stood for reduced make-ready times and high productivity in the punching process. As an original Marbach product, the technology will remain a reliable standard for the highest demands in packaging production in the future.
